| Chair Shots: The final Assault! |
As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. For some people, it is reason to celebrate and for others, the Chronicle will never be the same. This is the last ever edition of Chair Shots since I am graduating, and as much as I would like to keep writing it, I cannot.
So this begs the question, can someone else write it? For someone to take over as the wrestling voice of Columbia they will have to go through rigorous tests of their wrestling knowledge and history. (Example, What was Paul Bearers first name in wrestling and whom did he manage?)
Please do not go searching all over the Internet for the answer, you just have to know it or you wont cut it! For anyone who thinks they have an answer or are interested in writing the column, E-mail me at bft3@hotmail.com.
Now, on to the issues at hand:
Since the last Chair Shots, the New World Order has reformed in WCW, Triple H is the World Champion again, Superfly Snuka is back and Nitro is two hours.
In what seems to be a no-lose angle, the NWO is back for the third time, this time with Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Jeff Jarrett, Scott Steiner and World Champion Bret Hart. Hart and Jarrett joined the day after Starrcade in a rematch between Hart and Goldberg for the World Title.
Hart won the match with the help of Hall, Nash and a baseball bat that used to whack Goldberg over the head and cover the pin to win the vacant title. Jarrett would enter the fray, and using an old trademark of NWO spray-paint Goldberg with the letters N-W-O!
Steiner would join two weeks later, in what was suppose to be his night of retirement after being out of action for months with a back injury. A shocked audience would only find out it was only an act and that he once again was a member of the NWO and brought the group some added muscle.
In addition, in the WCW, the feud between the Revolution and the Filthy Animals has reached a feverish pitch much of the credit to Shane Douglas. While being injured, Douglas has been working the microphone and bringing the entire crowd against him.
The two factions will be meeting at Souled Out pay-per-view with Billy Kidman, Eddie Guerrero and Konan against Dean Malenko, Perry Saturn and a mystery opponent which most likely will be Douglas.
Finally, Diamond Dallas Page and Buff Bagwell are involved in a heated feud in which DDP has accused Bagwell of sleeping with his wife, Kimberly, a former Nitro Girl.
So far, it looks as though it may actually be a real angle and should continue for awhile. I have been saying this for a few months, but the WWF is not happening right now. They still are winning the ratings, but only because more people know about it, not because of the stories.
The Stephanie McMahon/Triple H ownership angle is completely old and overused and needs to be end. Vince McMahon is expected to return around February, but this will only set up another Triple H-McMahon feud that will last until the summer. The only thing that the WWF has to look forward to is the return of The Undertaker, Stone Cold Steve Austin and the debut of Taz after Royal Rumble (Jan. 23).
Other than that, the WWF really has nothing that is getting real wrestling fans excited. Jericho is still involved with Chyna, DX is boring, Shawn Michaels is still missing, Bossman is still wrestling and Smackdown is still on TV.
Today, the most interesting and entertaining story in wrestling is the old vs. new in WCW. So far, Jimmy Superfly Snuka, Tito Santana, George The Animal Steele and Paul Mr. Wonderful Orndorff have returned to the ring and relive the days in the 80s, when wrestling would only appear on TV one-time a week on Saturday mornings.
The next few months should be interesting for wrestling, with Nitro returning to two hours (7-9 p.m.) and Raw becoming more and more predictable, the gap between the two leagues is narrowing. The real test is if the WWF is going to be able to keep their audience with Austin out until at least spring and what impact will TAZ have once he enters.
I hope nobody thought this column was stupid or useless. If you did, oh well. So, its time for me to move on, to what Im not sure, but thanks for reading!
Remember that wrestling is fake and dont use these moves at home, or somebody will get hurt! |
